Every year we buy a Samoyedcalendar
and a few years ago we were struck by a photo of a Sammie in front of a sled.
That was the dog we were looking for. Once we got on the Internet I saw the
same dog on the homepage of the Organization of the Working Samoyed. I soon
found out that the photographers of the calendar own, breed AND run Samoyeds
and that this dog was named Tundra
Winds' Glacier Lily.

To
make a long story short, in February 2000 Will and I went to the States to pick
up 2 Samoyedpuppies at the home of Kent, Donna and Patrick Dannen in Allenspark
Colorado. These puppies are out of Tundra Winds' Storms A-Bruin "Bruin"
WSXM and Abakan-Tundra Winds' Carved in Ivory "Scrimshaw" WS. They
are the greatgreatgrandchildren of Glacie. In honour to Glacie (who is 14 years
old in 2000!) we named Sterre: Tundra
Winds' Snow Lily. A snowlily is the same arcticflower as the glacier lily.
Sterre's brother TundraWinds' Baruff lives at the home of the breeder of our other dogs: Anca Molenaar. As Sterre is going to run in our sleddogteam, Baruff is going to be a showdog and studdog (if he performs well, ofcourse!)
In the Summer of 2000 Baruff came to stay at our home as his family was away for vacation. It was really nice to see brother and sister together. How much they look like eachother. It was during these 2 weeks that we realized how well Donna Dannen made the right choice. Sterre is a real powerhouse and loves the practising with her puppyharness, Baruff is more quiet and stands still for 5 to 10 minutes if you want him to.
This
photo shows Sterre and Baruff together. The overall feeling is that Sterre takes
after her Mum Scrimshaw and Baruff after his Dad Bruin. But Baruff has the "standing
still" from his Mum and Sterre is more like her Dad in that matter.
We will keep you informed about the progress of those 2 Colorado's. Check the newspage as often as you can.

Sterre went to Sweden with us for the first time in February 2001. She went just mad being in the snow and now we know for sure that she is an absolute racing Samoyed. The photo below is about the only picture we took from her where she is quiet. We are very, very proud of her and are thinking about taking her brother Baruff with us next year.
